The Detroit Lakes softball team found two different dominating ways to win Tuesday in Crosby-Ironton, as the Lakers upped their Mid-State Conference record to 4-0.

Senior pitcher Callea Butz was dominating factor No. 1 after she bowled through the Ranger lineup in the form of 15 strikeouts with a one-hit 3-0 win.

In game two, it was the Laker bats which applied some big-time punch, as the offense belted out 19 hits in a five-inning 18-2 blowout.

"Another thing, we had only two errors on the day, too," said DL head coach Phil Kirchner.

Butz nearly had a no-hitter against the Rangers in game one, but Bailey Englund spoiled it with a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

But Butz' pitches were finding her catcher Brianna Seebold's mitt, instead of the Rangers' bats.

"She had a good fastball going and she was mixing in a changeup, as well," Kirchner added. "It was Callea's best game of the year."

DL gave Butz just enough run support with two runs in the fourth and an insurance seventh-inning run for the 3-0 final.

Seebold led off with a walk, while senior shortstop Shayna Dugger hit her in with a single, followed by a one-bagger by Amanda Young to up the lead to 2-0.

Young then led off the seventh with a walk and was hit in by Stephanie Ianiro with a one-out single.

"We just were swinging at some bad pitches in the first game (five hits), but we had enough clutch hits," Kirchner said.

That wasn't the case in game two, as DL exploded for 19 hits, including a 4-5 game by Seebold and a 3-5 performance by Cady Cartmell.

Each had an RBI and three runs scored.

Jenna Lamb also had three hits and an RBI.

"The girls just were able to wait on the fastball and get some hard hits up the middle," the DL coach said. "Hitting is contagious and the girls had some very good at-bats."

The Lakers started early, racking out hits -- including a two-run single by Young -- in a seven-run first inning.

Steph Ianiro, Dugger and Kathyrn Kinney all had RBIs in the inning.

DL added five runs in the second and three in the third to overwhelm C-I pitcher Amy Carlson.

Butz started the game on the mound and pitched two scoreless and hitless innings, while Cartmell came in the third and cleaned up, while striking out five.

Other multiple hit games included Young (three RBIs) and Dugger, with two hits apiece, while 10 of 12 batters hit safely.

The Lakers will travel to Staples-Motley Tuesday for a conference doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
