There were a pair of intense endings for the Detroit Lakes wrestling team, as they split in the Fosston triangular Thursday.

In both duals, the winner was determined in the heavyweight match-up, as Laker eighth grader James Huwe went 1-for-2.

Huwe picked up a huge pin on Thief River Falls senior David Erickson, as the Lakers pulled off a crucial 36-31 win over the Prowlers.

Huwe had to win for the Lakers to prevail, after DL was trailing 31-30, due to a Prowler rally, which included wins from 152 pounds to 220.

The Lakers scored six wins in their first seven matches, building a 30-3 lead. Pins were registered by Bronson Spies (103), Luke Payne (113) and Zach Baker (132).

But the Prowlers made their comeback with three falls, including at 220 by Jon Erickson to put his team on top 31-30, before Huwe stuck David Erickson in 4:36.

But the tables were turned against Fosston, where Jordan Murphy pulled off the pin on Huwe to give the Greyhounds a 36-34 come-from-behind win.

Again, the Lakers built a commanding 31-0 lead after the 138 match, but Fosston was able to reel in five pins to pull off the victory.

DL had a pair of pins by Baker and Tyler Bellefeuille, while Gabe Foltz won by forfeit.

"In both duals, our team put in a great effort," said DL head coach Rob Ullyott. "Our experienced wrestlers continue to put points on the board and our less-experienced wrestlers are learning to stay in matches and not give up bonus points."

The Lakers will be in action Thursday night at Lake Park against the United Clay Becker Badgers, starting at 7:30 p.m.
