Lakers use depth in St. Cloud
A split squad for the Detroit Lakes boys’ golf team competed in the St. Cloud Apollo Invite Thursday, taking 11th out of 20 teams.
Austin Dodd led the way for the Lakers with a five-over par 77 for 10th place, while Tanner Schnathorst shot an 80, Luke Payne and Isaac Cihak an 88 and Ben Unruh came in with an 86.
“It was a good score for our second team, it will be a good meet to see those guys play,” said DL head coach Bob Gorden.
The season has been one interrupted by unseasonable cold and rainy weather, as all the golfers are looking for their best game, yet.
“From top to bottom, everyone is still making errors on a hole or two, leading to some higher scores,” Gorden said. “We are looking for some more consistency from everyone.”
Michael Herzog and Ben Mallow have regularly been DL’s top golfers, with Schnathorst and Christian Hedstrom both coming on stronger.
“The final spots will be fought over by Luke Payne, Austin Dodd, Isaac Cihak and Ben Unruh,” Gorden added.
The Lakers will host their DL Invite Tuesday at the Detroit Country Club, starting at 9 a.m.
