Lakes Area Parrot Heads’ Boats & Bars event proves to be successful for two area charities
Two Detroit Lakes charities are getting a big financial boost thanks to the Lakes Area Parrot Heads’ Boats & Bars weekend, which was held Aug. 23-25 in Detroit Lakes.
This was the eighth annual Boats & Bars event, and according to Lakes Area Parrot Heads President Jim Brogren, it was by far the largest and most successful.
“This was the first time we covered three days, and we actually sold out of event passes. Some of our members counted more than 120 boats on the water,” Brogren said. “It just shows how popular this event has become and how much it can benefit the community.”
The Humane Society of the Lakes will receive $9,500, while Habitat for Humanity of the Detroit Lakes Area will receive $3,500. Money was raised through a silent auction, raffle, event passes and merchandise sales.
Brogren gave special thanks to event sponsors who provide critical support, saying, “We couldn’t do Boats and Bars without them, and there are so many who make it happen. Tate Jansen and the whole Zorbaz crew; Brian and Julie Johnson at The Bridge, Marina, Bar and Grill; Holiday Beach Bar and Grill; Lakeshirts; D & S Beverages from Moorhead; Landshark Lager; and the Island Time Steel Drum band.”
Additionally, raffle prizes were provided by: Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel, St. John, USVI; Banana Beach Resort, Ambergris Caye, Belize; Cabo Villas Resort, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Travel Travel of Detroit Lakes; Best Western Plus, Bloomington.
Silent auction items were provided by local and regional businesses, organizations and individuals. Checks for the Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity were presented at the LAPHC business meeting, Saturday, Oct. 19, at Zorbaz in Detroit Lakes.
Lakes Area Parrot Heads, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Minnesota, drawing membership from Detroit Lakes, Fargo, Moorhead and other communities throughout the Midwest and Manitoba, Canada.
