Lakeshirts hosts parade
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

If you noticed a gathering of oddly-dressed people on West Lake Drive on Thursday, from Fred and Wilma Flinstone to characters from "Grumpy Old Men" and a very large dog with special talents, it wasn't a costume contest gone awry - it was an event for Lakeshirts' annual sales representatives conference.

Terilynne Nelson, sales manager at Detroit Lakes' Lakeshirts, said the parade, which started at Lakeside Tavern at 4 p.m. Thursday and went on for six blocks, wrapping around the north side of City Park, was an effort to do something different for 31 of their sales representatives from around the country, who were in Detroit Lakes on Thursday and Friday.

The parade, Nelson said, was colleague Twila Aslesen's idea. One year, she said, they had competitive show waterskiiers come perform, but they try to do something different every year.

Originally the parade was just going to be for the representatives, but at the last minute they decided to invite the public as well, sending flyers to area businesses and daycares.

The parade lasted 15 minutes and consisted of the DLHS marching band and about 10 floats and drew about 100 people. The conference was held at the Pavilion.
