Larry Nordquist

Larry M. Nordquist, 56, of Perham, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, December 24, 2008.

Larry Michael Nordquist was born to Martin Fredrick and Louise Emma (Henry) Nordquist on Dec. 14, 1952 in Wadena. Larry grew up on the family farm in Sebeka, and was confirmed in May 1967. He graduated from Wadena High School with the class of 1971. Larry honorably served in the United States Army from June 24, 1971 to June 14, 1974. After returning from the service, he was employed farming near Bertha, Minn.

On July 18, 1980 Larry married Brenda Jean Moen in Wadena, they were married until 2000. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Stephanie, Sean and Justin. Larry continued farming in Clarissa and Milaca, Minn.; he was also a machinist in Milaca and Elk River for five years. In 1989, Larry and Brenda returned to Clarissa and continued farming. In 2000, Larry resided in Frazee, where he was employed at Detroit Lakes Manufacturing as a toolroom technician until 2003. In October 2003, Larry retired due to illness and moved to Evergreen Township.

On Feb. 16, 2007 Larry married Cara Lee (Alberts) Murphy at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, rural Frazee. Together Larry and Cara made their home in Butler Township, rural Perham. Larry enjoyed fishing, animals, poker, woodwork, flowers and gardening; he definitely had a green thumb.

Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends, including his wife, Cara L. Nordquist of Perham; daughter, Stephanie (Bill) Labart of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, Sean Michael Nordquist of Perham and Justin Samuel Nordquist of Perham; stepdaughters, Samantha Lee Ann Murphy of Sebeka and Tiffany Lynn Murphy of Perham; stepson, Travis James Murphy of Sebeka; two grandchildren; godson, Isaih Riedel; brothers, Dwaine (Shari) Nordquist of Otsego, John (Julie) Nordquist of Vergas and David (Bunita) Nordquist of Missouri; sisters, Nancy Nordquist of Sebeka and Cheryl (James) Lexcen of Elk River; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Martin and Louise; an infant brother on Nov. 4, 1961; sister, Judith "Judy" Kari on Jan. 12, 1998; and his nephew, Christopher Moske, on Nov. 15, 2001.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, Frazee, with the Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating. Pallbearers are Bruce Riedel, Darin Eckre, John Pollard, Jeff Pollard, Marty Nordquist and Ryan Kari. Military honors will be provided by the Eagle Bend VFW of Eagle Bend, Minn. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Evergreen Township, rural Frazee.
