Laurentian Chapter offers scenic hike
Would you like to discover some of the scenic and little known places in Becker County?
Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association for hike through Greenwater Lake Scientific and Natural Area on Saturday, May 1.
They'll walk through varied habitats looking for wildflowers and listening for migratory bird calls.
The hike will be about three miles long and participants will stop to enjoy nature along the way. Hikers of all ages are welcome as they walk on the route that is proposed to become part of the North Country Trail.
Bring water, lunch and sturdy shoes and wear long sleeves and pants. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Greenwater Lake parking area, which is located off of County Highway 35 about one mile west of County Highway 37 (Island/Shell lake Road). Or if you would like to carpool from Detroit Lakes, meet at the parking lot of the MN State Community and Technical College at 8:15 am.
Plan to return by 1 p.m. Dogs are not allowed in the Greenwater Area.
Volunteers of the Laurentian Lakes Chapter are working weekly to complete the nearly 60 miles of this premier hiking trail in Becker Country. The North Country Trail will stretch over 4,600 miles linking communities, forest, and prairies across seven states. When complete it will be the longest hiking trail in the United States.
