Live at the Lodge
The Lodge on Lake Detroit will host a free "Live at the Lodge" concert every Thursday through Aug. 27. This week's performance features pianist Carol Ledeboer-Johnson. The concert will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. in the hotel's Fireside Lobby, and is free and open to the public as well as hotel guests. There is no cover charge for the Summer Thursdays series. Come to the Detroit Lakes Library at 2 p.m. to enjoy Robert and Lynn Halbrook's "Imagineering @ Your Library" magic show. This program is free and a part of "Be Creative @ Your Library," the 2009 Minnesota Summer Reading Program, a themed reading program designed to encourage children to read over the summer months.
Stick horse rodeo

Guided Tamarac tour
Tamaac Wildlife Refuge offers a guided tour from 10 a.m. to noon. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac. Tours are offered every Thursday June-August.

White Earth Powwow
Likely one of the oldest celebrations in the area, the 141st annual White Earth Reservation Celebration and Powwow opens today on the powwow grounds in White Earth. The Junior and Senior Princess and Brave contest is open to all enrolled members and descendants and must reside within 25 miles of the reservation boundaries. The junior title is for ages 8-12, and the senior title is for ages 13-17. All entries must be received by 6 p.m. The Grand Entry is at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the White Earth Reservation Tribal Council and the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center. The Café Accordion Orchestra will perform at a Great American Think-Off celebration concert set for 7:30 p.m. at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. The Great American Think-Off Debate
The 16th Annual Great American Think-Off Debate begins at 7 p.m. inside the James W. Mann Performing Arts Center at New York Mills Public Schools. Sponsored by the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, the debate will feature four finalists from across the country. Ministry of Jazz
The Ministry of Jazz performs Sunday, June 14 at 8 p.m. in the ITOW Veterans' Museum, 805 West Main, Perham. This "Tribute to the Big Band Era" will feature the area's greatest jazz musicians. The group includes Harley Sommerfeld on saxophone; Ed Christianson on trombone; John Pederson on trumpet; Kent Karch on upright bass; Kathy Brekke, vocals and keyboards; and Joe Riewer on drums. Members of the band perform regularly at Jazz Night at Basie's in Fargo. In the summer they can be heard at Jasper's Jubilee Theatre in Park Rapids. A Detroit Lakes summer tradition for the past several years, the Tuesdays in the Park concert series continues June 16 with a 7 p.m. performance by Vincent & the Van Goes.
