At least four dead in I-94 pileup near Alexandria in central Minnesota
Four people were killed in a multi-vehicle pileup west of Alexandria on Interstate 94, according to Sergeant Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash happened at about 3:15 p.m. during a heavy snowfall. Law enforcement personnel responded to a six-vehicle pileup on the eastbound lanes near mile marker 97.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those killed or injured in the crash. At least two people were taken to the hospital.
The eastbound lanes were closed to traffic and a detour was set up at the Brandon exit. The lanes re-opened at 5:35 p.m.
The snow has caused hazardous driving conditions throughout the area. Local law enforcement agencies are reporting that the roads are covered with ice and are very slippery.
Several other crashes have been reported in the Douglas County area since the pileup. One of the other crashes resulted in minor injuries.
