Legion, Auxiliary hosts annual Teachers Tea
Monday, Nov. 18, the Detroit Lakes American Legion and Auxiliary hosted their 44th annual Teachers Tea, celebrating American Education Week.
The theme for Education Week was “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”
All current and retired public and parochial school personnel were invited. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 15 served a light lunch and cake. One hundred and two school personnel, including two first-year teachers, signed the guest book.
Tom Frank, post service officer, was emcee for the event. After American Legion Auxiliary President Louanne Gerdes and Tom Frank welcomed on behalf of Commander Dr. Eric Wilkens (who was teaching his class at M State DL), Frank did roll call of all schools.
Each school was announced and both current and retired personnel were recognized. Frank also informed the group of the many children and youth activities that the Legion sponsors.
Ten Senior Auxiliary, two community volunteers and three Junior Auxiliary members served the luncheon. Four Legionnaires helped as well.
Co-chairmen were Corrine Frank and Louanne Gerdes.
