Carl Leo Steen, 87, of Rochert, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Leo was born the son of Walter and Anna (Anderson) Steen on June 12, 1923 in Davenport, N.D. He attended elementary school in Richwood and high school in Detroit Lakes. After high school he worked on numerous farms in the area and later entered the United States Army in 1949, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955.
Leo was united in marriage to Gunda Bakken on December 16, 1956 at Egelund Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Rochert area, where he farmed and was employed by Tomlinson Lumber Company for 30 years.
Leo enjoyed fishing, gardening, riding bike to get the mail, watching movies with Gunda, listening to music and was an avid reader.
Leo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gunda Steen of Rochert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Ina Franks.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
