Waubun area native LeRoy E. Altenhofen, 63, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at his home.
LeRoy Edwin Altenhofen was born to Jake and Rose Altenhofen on March 2, 1944 in Sugarbush Township. He was one of 13 children. LeRoy graduated from Waubun High School in 1962, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, serving proudly for 26 years and achieving the rank of CMSGT. Upon retiring from the service in 1989, he went to work for Toshiba America Medical for 14 years.
LeRoy met his wife Glenda Young in Shafter, Calif. They were married March 4, 1966 and had 41 years together. LeRoy was a man who always offered a helping hand to anyone in need, at anytime. He strongly believed in the bonds of family.
Surviving LeRoy are his wife Glenda; their three daughters, Shawna (Dan) Mannel, Sonia (Peter) Schwietert and Stacey (Ren) Archuleta; five grandchildren; his sisters, Florence (Arvid) Johnson, Addie Bencker, Elsie (Al) Keith, Linda (Arnie) Allrich, Carolyn (Jude) McGloin and Joy (Don) Gilbert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding LeRoy in death were his parents, Jake and Rose; and his siblings, Ben, Edna, Helen, Henry, Jane and Ila.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Living Hope Church, 2840 B½ Road, Grand Junction, Colo.
