Leroy Frost Sr.

Leroy Vincent Frost Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at his son's home on Lake Melissa in Detroit Lakes, with his family by his side.
Leroy was born to Bernard and Elizabeth (Bahl) Frost on February 23, 1924 in Page, N.D. He was raised on the family farm along with his eight brothers and one sister.
Lee's passion for baseball was equal to his talent. At 17 he was drafted onto the New York Yankees farm team, where he pitched until he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at San Diego. He was honorably discharged at the end of World War II.
On January 22, 1941 he married his lifetime love, Geraldine Kaye (Tiny) Rutherford, and together they had four children.
Lee worked as a truck driver and was a member of the teamster union. He later owned and operated the Piney Way Resort and a Mobil service station and airport at Breezy Point, Minn.
After retirement, Lee and Tiny spent many years in Las Vegas, Nev. In 2006 Lee was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and shortly thereafter, he was honored again by being invited to throw out the first pitch at the Minnesota Twins game. All his family proudly attended.
Lee most recently lived in Fargo, until his wife passed on Oct. 3, 2011, when he moved to Detroit Lakes to live with his son Vince.
Surviving Lee are his sons, Leroy Frost Jr. (Nancy) of Lake Melissa, Dominic Lynn Frost of Carson City, Nev.; brothers Robert (Esther) Frost, Ray (Lois) Frost and John (Joanne) Frost; sister, Jackie Punton; grandchildren, Donald (Yasmeen) Frost, Robin Frost, Vince (Colleen) Frost, Brenda Larson, Holly (Jay) Johnson, Anne (David) Kellerhuis, Heidi Lesson, Penny Yunker, Jennie Frost, Billy Frost and Ryan Frost; 19 great- grandchildren; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
