'Let's Go Fishing' helps make DL a better place
Once again the people of Detroit Lakes and surrounding areas have made this community a better place to live.
August 11, St. Mary's Senior Housing and Assisted Living residents had the opportunity of cruising on the "Lets Go Fishing" Pontoon around beautiful Detroit Lakes. Two groups of Residents took in the fresh air, beautiful sun shine and great experience. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, the pontoon well equipped with ice cold water and the memory will live on for a long time to come for over 20 of our housing residents.
The point of my letter to the editor is not to tell everyone what a good time we had, though that is an important part of the topic, but more importantly what an incredible program the "Let's Go Fishing" service really is. It is all done by volunteers and all funded through donations.
The pontoon made two trips. Through a special dispensation from DNR the residents could have fished if they had cared to or they could just enjoy the ride. The "Let's Go Fishing Program serves Senior Citizens, Groups, Individuals, Nursing Centers, Assisted Living Centers, Veterans, Social Service Agencies, Hospice patients, disabled adults, Church Groups and Adult Day Care Centers. Their mission is to enrich the lives of individuals 55 and older through free fishing and boating activities that strengthen communities, build relationships and create memories. Well they sure accomplished that Wednesday and all free of charge.
I did say "Free of Charge" The vision of "Let's Go Fishing" with Seniors is to develop a network of chapters and volunteers working together to serve senior citizens through out Minnesota, the region and ultimately the entire country.
This is a blatant pitch for "Let's Go Fishing" but it is also a very sincere thank you from all of our residents for the wonderful afternoon they provided. -- Sue Braun, Senior Living Counselor, St. Mary's Innovis Health
