Letter: Destruction of Berean Baptist Church adds to community's non-identity
In reference to the March 12 front page photo "Stairway to Heaven" of the former Berean Baptist Church demolition.
Let's all bow our heads for a moment of silence as we reflect upon our lives while listening to the track hoes, jack hammers and sounds of falling bricks.
But yet, noisy as it is, I can still hear the song, sung by the "Joni Mitchell."
To me the song sounds like this:
"Don't it always seem to go,
That we don't know what we got 'til it's gone,
They tore down a church,
To put up a parking lot" O La, La, La, La!!!
Almost all of us are to blame in some degree.
I am to blame for not going to the city council meetings to voice my opinion, and for never stepping inside a church that I can only picture, was as beautiful in the inside as it was on the outside.
Others are to blame for different reasons, some of whom I imagine, may have a great deal of blood on their hands.
How far have we, and will we continue (Detroit Lakes) to slide down that slope of non-identity? -- Linden (Lindy) McNeilus, Detroit Lakes
