The only day of the week designated with a special name is the seventh day of the week, which is called the Sabbath (day of rest). It has been assumed that the crucifixion was on a Friday. However there were two Sabbaths during the week of the crucifixion. The book of John explains that it was a “high day” which refers to high holy days which were annual Sabbaths in addition to the weekly Sabbath.
