Letters - Wadena mayor says Skogen will give voice, lend ear to important issues
On June 17, 2010, Wadena was struck by an EF4 tornado that devastated a large portion of the City of Wadena.
It destroyed over 100 homes, 20 businesses, our high school, community center and many public buildings and infrastructure. Dan Skogen worked tirelessly next to me to ensure that our residents and business owners were assisted in every way possible.
We walked door-to-door together visiting citizens, making sure they were OK and had the resources to recover from this disaster. Dan quickly drafted legislation that ensured Wadena, and other communities stuck by this natural disaster, received the financial assistance not covered by FEMA and insurance that all citizens expect from the State of Minnesota. Without that assistance, the local cost share would have been an impossible burden on our city.
Dan Skogen has always been a strong advocate for Greater Minnesota cities. During his term in the state Senate, he fought for legislation that held property taxes down and gave communities the ability make decisions locally rather than letting St. Paul dictate how we operate.
I have known Dan Skogen almost 30 years and I can assure you that if you elect him to represent you in St. Paul, you will have a voice and his ear when it comes to issues important to you. When you go to the polls on Nov. 6, I encourage you to vote for Dan Skogen. -- Wayne Wolden, mayor of Wadena
