Former Davenport, N.D., resident Lila M. Geerdes, 89, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes.
Lila (Johnson) Geerdes was born to Anna (Narvestad) and Emil Johnson on June 24, 1924 in Davenport. She attended grade school in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics and Science.
Lila taught school in Ada, Minn., as well as Mandan, Davenport and Kindred, N.D. She retired after 25 years of teaching. She married Kenneth Geerdes on August 24, 1947 in the Davenport Lutheran Church of which she was a life time member.
She and Ken celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. Lila and Ken spent 40 summers at their cabin on Pelican Lake and many winters in Arizona. Her last six years, she resided at Lincoln Park in Detroit Lakes.
Surviving Lila are her son, Ronald (Patricia) Geerdes, Dent; grandson, Gregory (Amy) Geerdes, Frazee; granddaughter, Gina (Gerald) Stanford, Barnesville; four beloved great grandchildren, Jayden and Brooke Geerdes, and Anna and Noah Stanford.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Kenneth (Oct. 14, 2003; and two brothers, Kenneth and Eugene Johnson.
Memorials are preferred, to the Davenport Lutheran Church in Davenport.
A funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in Davenport Lutheran Church, Davenport N.D., with visitation starting at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Davenport Lutheran Church Cemetery in Davenport.
