Lillian V. Meeks, 86, of Osage, died Monday, Sep-tember 9, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Lillian Violet Meeks was born to Arvid and Aune Longfors on March 23, 1927 in Chisholm, Minn. The family moved to Snellman when Lillian was a young girl. She grew up there and attended the Shell Lake School.
She moved to California to work in the Shipyards during World War II. It was there that she met Louis Meeks. They were married on November 9, 1945 in Reno, Nev., and made their home in Parkersburg, W. Va.
In 1951 they moved to Snellman, where they raised their family.
Lillian loved being a housewife, mother, and grandmother. She always enjoyed doing things for others. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, rug making, gardening, working puzzles, reading, and playing cards and softball.
She is survived by her husband Louis; three daughters, Lois (Lyle Tabbut) Mastin of Pelican Rapids, Brenda (Robert) Wickline of Detroit Lakes and Bonnie (Anthony Fairbanks) Meeks of Osage; four sons, Louis (Elaine) Meeks of Park Rapids, William Meeks of Detroit Lakes, Robert (Tonya Harris) Meeks of Detroit Lakes and Charles (Carolyn) Meeks of Ogema; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Nesbitt of Seattle, Wash.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three daughters, Carol Nickolauson, Mary Gil-lette and Nancy Meeks; one brother, Richard Longfors; one daughter-in-law, Mary Meeks; and one son-in-law, Larry Gil-lette.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
