Lily Olund, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Lily was born to John and Magdalena (Litzu) Sperling on April 9, 1923 in Height of Land Township, Becker County. She attended country school in District 22, Height of Land Township and later attended Washington Elementary School in Detroit Lakes.
Lily married Swan Olund in 1947. Swan died in 1949. Lily worked as a dietary aide at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes for 35 years, until retiring in 1991. She also worked at a laundromat for a few years.
Lily moved to the Lamplighter in 2000 and Emmanuel Nursing Home in 2006. She enjoyed collecting coins, elephants and restaurant menus. She also enjoyed dancing and western music. One of her most memorable vacations was in 1970 with her son, Lynn in Japan. The times spent with her family and grandchildren were the ones she cherished most.
Lily is survived by her son, Lynn (Sandi) Olund of Fargo; a grandson and granddaughter; four great grandchildren; one sister, Sadie Blauert of Detroit Lakes; one brother, Edmond (Barb) Sperling of Evansville, Ind.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lily in death were her parents, husband, brother, Elmer Sperling, and sisters Clara Clark, Leona Janhke and Helen Sperling.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, with burial following in Oak Grove Cemtery, Detroit Lakes.
