Lloyd F. Schoenberger, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at his residence.
Lloyd Schoenberger was born to Otto and Emma (Dahring) Schoenberger on May 31, 1924 in rural Detroit Lakes. He grew up there and helped with the operation of the family owned dance hall and roller-skating rink. He attended school in Frazee, graduating from Frazee High School. He then drove truck for the milk plant in Detroit Lakes.
Lloyd was married to Mary Randall on October 10, 1946. They moved to Riverdale, N.D., where he worked as a foreman on the construction of the Garrison Dam. On December 27, 1969 he married Clara Olding. They lived in Billings, Mont., and Buena Park, Calif., before moving back to Detroit Lakes. Over the years he drove truck for Consolidated Freightways, Burlington Northern Freight, and Kost Cement of Fargo.
Lloyd enjoyed snowmobiling and loved time spent with his grandchildren.
Surviving Lloyd are his wife, Clara; two sons, Jon (Lana) Schoenberger of Buena Park and Jodean (Shari) Schoenberger of Frazee; one daughter, Krista (Don) Wilke of Bedford, Texas; two stepdaughters, Gloria (John) Hunsaker and Sandee (Larry) Listul, both of Detroit Lakes; one stepson, Bruce (Judy) Olding of Newell, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Arlene (Hank) Schreiner of Frazee.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mary; two sisters, Gladys Blauert and Lorraine Sperling; and one grandson, Joshua.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
