Local Lions Club raises funds
DETROIT LAKES - Bowling was booming at Voyageur Lanes, Saturday, March 8, 2008 as 30 teams participated in the second annual "Battle of the Businesses" Bowling Tournament.
Nearly $1,500 was raised during the event thanks to its many participants and local businesses that donated prizes and team sponsorships, said local Lions Club member Howard Mooney, who added the funds would be used to further the Lions mission: "To Serve".
"Lions contribute to many local charities, and in particular, to programs which benefit eyesight, such as distribution of eyeglasses to the needy, both in the US and in Mexico, Eye Donation Bank, and the Seeing Eye - Dog program," continued Mooney.
The Detroit Lakes Lions are now selling raffle tickets for their "Big Money Spring Raffle", with a chance to win $5,000 as well as other cash prizes.
The drawing will be held on May 20, 2008 at the Detroit Lakes Speak Easy starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are available from Lions Club members, or by calling Rick Kalinoski, at 847-2735 or 841-2735.
