Funeral services for Lois took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Lois Marie Anderson was born to Arthur and Ruth (Culbertson) Anderson on September 12, 1933 near Pillager, Minn. She was raised and educated in Daisy, N.D., graduating from Daisy High School.

After high school, Lois pursued her dream of becoming a teacher. She attended Jamestown College and finished her education at Valley City State.

In 1953, Lois was united in marriage to Arlen Harstad. They resided in Sandborn, N.D., later moving to the Detroit Lakes area in 1973. For over 30 years, Lois taught school in the Ogema and Waubun school districts, retiring in 1994. Lois continued subbing for teachers throughout the lakes area for several years following her retirement.

Lois graciously volunteered her time wherever the need was. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, tending to her garden, sewing, visiting with her "coffee friends" and travelling, especially her trips to Israel.

Lois lived a life centered on Christ. Always leading by example, Lois exemplified a life full of positive energy, a strong faith and love for family. Lois was known to her children as the "prayer warrior."

Arlen passed away on December 5, 2009.

On October 21, 2011 in Daisy, Lois was united in marriage to David Smith, a longtime friend and retired pastor. They resided in Grand Forks and enjoyed going on several trips together, spending time with each other's families and making new friends. One of Lois's last gifts to both families was cooking aprons that she sewed for each member of the family.

Lois will be remembered and dearly missed by her husband David of Grand Forks; her children, Cindy (Robert) St. Claire of Richwood, David (Peggy) Harstad, Dan (Heidi) Harstad and Gail (Steve) Wiebolt, all of Detroit Lakes; along with 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Harstad of Callaway; as well as David's children, Lynette (Pierre) Cariveau, Daniel (Diane) Smith and Karen (Maynard) Herting.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Arlen; four sons, Steve, Arthur, Kim and Glen; one granddaughter, Sally; and two brothers, Wallace Anderson and Wendall Anderson.

The David Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
