Former Audubon resident Lois V. Heden, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died on Sunday, January 3, 2010, in Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Lois Virginia Senn was born the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Olson) Senn on April 22, 1929 in Pelican Rapids. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and then attended Moorhead State University for two years. After receiving her teaching degree, Lois taught school in Evansville, Minn., for three years.
Lois was united in marriage with Erwin Thorson on August 18, 1950. Lois and Erwin had four children together. Erwin died on October 10, 1973. On May 7, 1977 Lois was united in marriage with Olai Heden. They resided on Leaf Lake near Audubon, where Olai continues to reside. Lois entered the Emmanuel Nursing Home in July 2004.
Lois was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church circle.
Lois had a green thumb, especially with flower gardening. She enjoyed fishing for walleyes, watching birds, and being outdoors. She will also be remembered for being a great hostess of her huge family gatherings.
Surviving Lois are her husband, Olai Heden of Audubon; two sons, David (Marsha) Thorson of Erhard, Minn., and Donald Thorson of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Linda (Chuck) Ohm of Pelican Rapids and Elaine Thorson of Detroit Lakes; two stepchildren, Doyle (Lois) Heden of Buxton, N.D., and Ernest Heden of Audubon; eight grandchildren, John (Nicole) Thorson, Sarah (Kevin) Nehk, Amy (Jason) Hasling, Greg Thorson, Kenny Thorson, Jason Ohm, and Kayla Ohm (Mitch Mehrer), and Tom Ohm; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Lois in death were her parents, Clarence and Alice; husband, Erwin Thorson; infant sister, Phyllis; brother, Charles, and grandson, James.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7 at Larson Funeral Home, and will resume one hour prior to Friday's funeral service at the church.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday, January 8 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Audubon, with Rev. Paul Peterson officiating. All of Lois' grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids.
