The Detroit Lakes man who drowned while swimming off a pontoon on Long Lake Sunday has been identified. Authorities say 47 year old Barry Ellegaard was found in 34 feet of water this morning. Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon says Ellegaard was apparently struck by the propeller after inadvertently leaving the motor in gear prior to jumping off the bow of the pontoon to swim. Ellegaard's body was found this morning at around 9:40. Divers used specialized sonor to locate the body after running up against low-light conditions Sunday night and Monday. Light stops infiltrating the water after 20 feet. The Becker County Sheriff's Department, Becker County Dive Rescue, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota DNR and the Detroit Lakes Police and Fire Departments assisted in the search and recovery.
