Lorraine Lindstrom-Halverson, 93, Detroit Lakes, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Sunnyside Care Center in rural Lake Park.

Lorraine Ruby Peterson was born to Gertrude Peterson on January 15, 1921 in Minneapolis. In 1947, she married Erling Lindstrom. She was a private teacher for the Moorhead school system.

Erling passed away in 1977. After Erling died she worked as the parish secretary for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Parish in Lake Park, where she worked for 11 years.

She married Alfred Halverson in 1990. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and were members of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was active in various committees. Her main interest was in missions. She and Alfred spent time spreading the Lord's Word thru their music at several nursing homes in the area. Alfred passed away in 2000.

Lorraine is survived by three children, Richard (Becky) Lindstrom of Audubon, Roxanne (Ron) Samuelson of Lake Park and Rebecca (Tom) Sorvik of West Fargo; one granddaughter, Christina (Eugene) Knutson of Lake Park; three grandsons, Ryan (Allison) Lindstrom and Robert Lindstrom, both of Fargo, and Paul Andrew Sorvik of West Fargo; six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Sharon (Bob) Grunow of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Bonnie (Ron) Backer of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four step-grandsons, David (Jennifer) Backer of Kalamazoo, Steve (Tara) Backer of Rochester Hills, Mich., David (Amy) Grunow of Round Rock, Texas, and James (Amy) Grunow of Murfreesboro; one step-granddaughter, Susan (Judd) Baker of Fort Dix, N.J.; and 13 step-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the caregivers at Sunnyside Care Center for caring for Lorraine for the past three years.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5 at Faith Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Paul Larson officiating.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Interment will be in Strandvik Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Park.
