Lowell E. Glebe
Lowell E. Glebe, 88, Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.
Lowell Eldred Glebe was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Richwood, the third child of Ernest and Ellen (Lidstrom) Glebe. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, traveling extensively and always taking time to write about his travels in letters to home. Lowell was proud to have served his country. Following his discharge in 1952, Lowell worked for Mitchell Chevrolet, LP Olson Chevrolet, Myron Motors and owned and operated, along with Norris Hoffman, the Pure Oil Service Station in Detroit Lakes for a number of years. Lowell was a highly respected mechanic at Nereson Chevrolet in Detroit Lakes for 37 years.
After his retirement from Nereson Chevrolet in 1983, Lowell was content to stick around home in Richwood, where he spent endless hours working in his shop. Lowell had a love for animals and was known to take in stray cats in the neighborhood. He also enjoyed hunting, followed college and professional football closely, loved to visit and enjoyed Sunday meals with his sister, Alice.
In 2005, Lowell moved from his home in Richwood to Lincoln Park in Detroit Lakes, where he lived until recently when his health made it necessary for him to move to Oak Crossing.
Lowell is survived by two sisters, Alice Jeanette Nodsle, Detroit Lakes, Leila Vivian Glass, Carmichael, Calif., and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. in Lincoln Park Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in the spring.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Lincoln Park on Saturday.
