Lowell Wolff

March 18, 1925-Aug. 13, 2008

Lowell H. Wolff, 83, of Park Rapids, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo.

Lowell Herbert Wolff was born to Harry H and Esther (Roesler) Wolff on March 18, 1925 in Delhi Township, Redwood Falls, Minn. He grew up on the family farm, and attended country school in Delhi Township. As a young man he worked in a hatchery, did farm work and started truck driving. In the early 1950s, he was drafted into the army and served during the Korean War.

On June 29, 1954 Lowell married Jane L. Duncan in Redwood Falls. They farmed in Marshall, Minn., and Redwood Falls. In the early 1960s, Lowell started trucking when he decided, "it's all I wanted to do." He worked a few different jobs in Austin, Minn., until in 1968, he and Jane moved to Park Rapids, where he has resided since.

Lowell continued his driving career, which included his own business of buying and selling feeder pigs for 10 years. In his "retirement years," Lowell assisted at Cease Funeral Home. Lowell had a green thumb and loved flowers. He was very good with all animals, and particularly loved his Belgian horses. He never considered himself retired, and although he stopped trucking several years ago, he always said he was going back to work and in fact had a valid trucking license.

Lowell had a great sense of humor and was an honest man. He was a strong Christian and loved to reference the passage known as 2 Timothy.

Surviving Lowell are his wife, Jane L. Wolff, four children, Randall (Cindy) Wolff of White City, Ore., Barbara (Mark) Anderson of Wolverton, Minn., Karen (Lyle) Kemi of Cloquet, Minn., and David (Sharon) Wolff of Park Rapids; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Stegner of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Betty Wolff of Rochester, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Howard and brother-in-law, Vernon.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 18, at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, with the Rev. Marty Giese and Pastor Russell Paulson co-officiating.

Honorary casket bearers were George Tapper, Clyde Zirkle, Howard Warmbold and Russ Carter. Active casket bearers were Paul Schrader, Harold Becker, Bruce Henderson, Brian Haataja, Cliff Sawyer and Myron Amundson. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Osage.
