There will be a mix of veteran experience and a healthy dose of youthful players on this year's Lake Park-Audubon baseball team.

The Raiders have solid athleticism at the top of the order and also will be looking to a pair of pitchers to carry them through the schedule in senior Dylan Omvig and sophomore Mason Swegarden.

"We'll be focusing on throwing our fastballs for strikes and then mix in other pitches," said first-year head coach Taylor Fuhs. "It will be important for our defense to make plays behind them."

With the athletic ability of the Raiders, the team should be competitive in every game, Fuhs added, but there will be plenty of unknown quantities with the amount of inexperience on the roster.

Swegarden will anchor the infield at shortstop when he's not pitching, while senior talent Wyatt Wixo and junior Jackson Nelson will also be reliable gloves on defense.

Senior Bryce Bartunek will strengthen the middle in center field, with the rest of the positions up for grabs.

The offense will be propelled by the Raiders' solid core of their top four to five hitters.

"Whoever is playing good defense and putting the ball in play will get their chance," Fuhs said. "There is a lot of proving to do, since we do have some inexperience in the lineup."

The Raiders will also have a junior varsity lineup, with 16 seventh and eighth graders out, which is a good number for the program.

"All I want is to be competitive in every game, we do have the athletic ability to stay in every game," Fuhs included.
