Seven candidates have filed for the four open seats on the Board. All School Board candidates -- Rick Ellsworth, Vicky Grondahl, Monica LaPoint, Michael McIntire, Ryan Quern, Jeff Swetland and Rich Veit -- have been invited to participate.

Experienced moderator Helen Foltz, active in the Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters, will chair this event.

The candidates will answer questions from the public during these moderated events, following the non-partisan, unbiased and impartial format established by the Minnesota League of Women Voters.

The purpose of the candidate forums is to give the Becker County voters an opportunity to hear the candidates discuss the issues of importance to them in this election. All events are free and open to the public.

Voters attending the forum have two opportunities to submit questions to the candidates. Written questions will be accepted throughout the forum. The League also has an e-mail for voters to submit questions in advance. That email address is dlarealwv@yahoo.com. Please indicate the name of the forum in questions submitted by email. By League of Women Voter policy, the identity of the person asking the question is confidential. Any questions submitted via email will remain confidential with all identifying information removed before the event. The e-mail option for submitting questions creates an opportunity for voters to ask questions in a more private manner because it guarantees anonymity.

During the forum, candidates will deliver a two-minute opening statement. Each candidate will have 1 1/2 minutes to answer the questions posed by the moderator.
