LP-A Raiders stacked for success
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

The hopes are high in the Lake Park-Audubon volleyball camp, and for good reason.

There will be plenty of seasoned vets returning for the Raiders, along with lots of new talent for the 2012 campaign.

"We have quite a bit varsity experience back and the girls are starting to realize how good a team has been assembled," said second-year LP-A head coach Mike Summers. "The team has good chemistry and if things go right, we should be right up there in the conference and section."

The Raiders will be strong on the outside with junior hitter Bailee Bartunek returning, along with senior Emily Sunram.

In the middle, junior Becca Schermer returns with good experience, while senior Emma Ulmer returns as a right side hitter.

Senior Carissa Raaen missed 2011 with a back injury, but returns at 100 percent and will fill middle hitter's duties well.

The setting duties will fall to junior Rilee Burnside, who also has good seasoning in passing the ball.

"Bailee is a solid player, an all-around athlete," Summers said. "Emily was a middle hitter last year, but we moved her to the outside, where she will be solid.

"Our setting will also be good, because Rilee is a smart player who can deliver the ball."

This season, LP-A will try to generate more offense off their serving, to help produce a more up-tempo offense.

"We'll be doing more spot serving, to take the opponents off their offensive game," Summers said.

The Raiders are hoping to contend for a Pine to Prairie Conference title and will open their season Thursday in Hawley.

Their home opener is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6, against Rothsay, starting at 7 p.m.
