Although numbers are not ideal for the Lake Park-Audubon boys’ and girls’ track and field teams, the Raiders will work with what they have for the 2013 spring season.

The LP-A girls’ team will have six girls back with good varsity experience and they will be the main cogs to fill events.

Junior Rebecca Scher-mer will fill relays and run the 800-meter event, while taking on high jumping duties, as well.

Junior Breann Hogie also will be a high jumper, a relay runner and other events.

The other junior captain is Bailee Bartunek, who will be a sprinter and will try the discus for the first time, as well.

Other Raider girls who will see plenty of action on the track will be senior Brittany Rislund in sprints, freshman Maddie Grossman in shotput and discus and freshman Hannah Strom will be a long-distance runner for the 1,600 and 3,200 events.

Seventh grader Brianne Huesman will also be a long jumper, while junior Jennifer Hamre will run relays.

“We will fill our relay events and just let the girls hit everything and see where it goes,” said LP-A head coach Coral Lunde.

The Raider boys’ team has better numbers with 15 out, including returning senior captain Mat Pepper.

Other returnees include senior Jacob Huesman, junior captain Isaiah Pearson, sophomore captain Tory Haglund, freshman Jonah Lange and brothers Tyler and Walker Charboneau.

Pepper, who is also a captain, will be back as a sprinter and also be a shot and discus thrower.

Sophomore Justin Hanson will be the Raiders’ high, long and triple jumper, while sophomore Taylor Briard will be a thrower and jumper.

Haglund returns as a sprinter and will be the team’s top 400-meter dasher.

The Charboneaus will be distance runners, with all the Raiders taking their turns in relays.

“We are fitting in the new athletes with our older ones, because we have a quite a bit of new faces this year on the boys’ team,” Lunde said.
