Former Vergas resident Lulu M. Moltzan, 90, of Pelican Rapids, died on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.
Lulu Marie Lewis was born to Herbert and Bertha (Brown) Lewis on Sept. 30, 1918 in Hunnewell, Kansas. As a child, she moved to Vergas. On May 26, 1947, Lulu married William Moltzan at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, near Vergas, MN. She worked at West Central Turkeys in Pelican Rapids for 16 years.
Lulu was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for several years and was active with their Ladies Aid. She was also a Lioness. In her spare time she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and loved to bake and sew.
Surviving Lulu are her two children, Kathy (Larry) Rice and John (Kristine) Moltzan, both of Vergas; two sisters, Bessie Nustad and Inez Zitzow; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Preceding her in death were her husband William; two sons, Patrick and Billy; two brothers, Alec and Leonard; and a sister, Iota.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, rural Vergas, continuing from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the start of services.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, rural Vergas, with the Rev. Robert Hinckley officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home in Vergas.
