Luverne B. Eid, 73, of Detroit Lakes and Tucson, Ariz., died Monday, May 20, 2013 at his lake home in Detroit Lakes.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Reverend Dave Peterson.

Luverne Byron Eid was born to Leonard and Ida (Fraser) Eid on Octo-ber 26, 1939 in Grafton, N.D., the eldest of four children. He was followed by siblings Gerald, Gordon and Carol. They resided in Walhalla, N.D., until 1948 and at that time, relocated to Moorhead. He attended Moor-head State Campus School, graduating in 1957.

On November 2, 1957 Luverne was united in marriage to Jean Knauf. Luverne and Jean had three children: Debbie, Todd and Doug. Luverne furthered his education at Concordia College of Moorhead, graduating in 1963, and later enrolled at the University of Chicago, receiving his MBA in 1961.

Luverne moved to West Fargo and became president of Great West Savings and Loan Association, also serving as the town's mayor.

On April 23, 1971, Luverne was united in marriage to Vicky Sasse. Vicky brought three children into their marriage: Kyle, Krista and Kamin.

Luverne and Vicky moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he became execu-tive director of the Na-tional Jaycees Organization. They then moved to Chicago for two years. They later moved back to Moorhead, and Luverne became vice president of finance for Eid-Co Build-ings until his retirement in 1989.

In his spare time, Luverne loved canoeing in northern Manitoba with his father and two brothers, along with other family members. He was blessed to go on four canoe trips, in 1959, 1974, 1976 and 1978.

In 2004 and 2012, Luverne and family members flew from Detroit Lakes to Churchill to relive the natural beauty and excitement of their family canoe trips.

Luverne and Vicky were able to spend many happy years of retirement together. They lived in Detroit Lakes during the summer, spending their winters in Marble Falls, Texas, Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Tucson.

Luverne became an enthusiastic golfer. He was appreciated by many friends for organizing golf outings in Detroit Lakes, Marble Falls and Lake Havasu.

This past fall, Luverne and Vicky enjoyed a cruise to Alaska and visits with his sons and families in California on their way to their Arizona home.

Surviving Luverne are his wife, Vicky, and five children, Todd (Joyce), Doug (Teresa), Kyle (Lois), Krista (Cliff Barth) and Kamin (Todd Benner); along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and daughter, Debbie.
