Lynne Fitzpatrick

Lynne Fitzpatrick, 70, of Pelican Rapids, died on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at her home near Pelican Rapids.

Lynne Carol Ekholm was born the daughter of Gunnard and Margaret (Whittemore) Ekholm on October 4, 1939, in Minneapolis. She graduated from South High School in 1957. She attended the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry, for Dental Assisting from 1958-1959.

On June 17, 1961, Lynne was united in marriage to Terry Fitzpatrick at Bethel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis by Reverend Gerstad, who in the future, would also be their pastor when they moved to Pelican Rapids and joined Trinity Lutheran Church. Terry and Lynne built a summer cabin on South Lake Lida in 1967, spending time in both Minneapolis and Pelican Rapids until 1970, when they purchased a resort in Pelican Rapids.

In 1982, Lynne graduated from nursing school in Fergus Falls. She worked for several hospitals and nursing homes over the years. For 18 years, she and her husband owned and operated Oak Lodge Resort on North Lake Lida, until 1988.

Lynne enjoyed fishing, camping, woodcarving, gardening, weekly lunches with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Red Cross, and Pass It On Ministry. Lynne took pleasure in singing with the Sweet Adelines while living in Minneapolis. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, various nursing organizations and women's civic clubs.

Surviving Lynne are her husband, Terry Fitzpatrick of Pelican Rapids; son, Darrin Fitzpatrick of Detroit Lakes; daughter, Kathy (Glen) Lewis of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Nina Lewis, Reed Lewis, Katie Hering, and Terry Hering; brother, Dave (Sandy) Ekholm of Bloomington, Minn.; sister-in-law, Patty (Wally) Pearson of Fergus Falls; and nieces and nephews, Steven (Melanie) Ekholm, Daniel (Phetsamone) Ekholm, Kristi (Kenn) Edman, Keith (Michelle) Pearson and Kevin (Laura) Pearson.

Preceding her in death were her son, Michael; and parents, Gunnard and Margaret.

Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, with the Rev. Laurie Skow-Anderson and Intern Pastor Al Brooks officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church.
