M State-DL offers revised, expanded business program
The Detroit Lakes campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College is making program changes to enhance opportunities for students interested in business careers.
Beginning fall semester, the campus will offer an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business: Management, Marketing and Sales. The new degree, which is also offered on M State’s Moorhead campus and online through eCampus, is more comprehensive than the marketing degree previously offered in Detroit Lakes.
The Business: Manage-ment, Marketing and Sales program includes business and general education courses and is designed to provide students with skills for careers in sales, marketing, research, customer service and business management.
“The program is designed for anyone who wants to begin a career in any of the business fields,” said M State business instructor Bryan Christensen.
“It offers a great foundation for entry into the workforce in a wide range of business positions.”
In addition to the 66-credit AAS degree, M State also offers a 33-credit diploma in Business: Marketing and Sales. Students who complete the one-year degree program can seamlessly transfer into the AAS degree program, if they choose, Christensen said.
“We’ve streamlined the program to make it easier and more efficient for students to continue their education,” he said. “During the second year, students will gain more knowledge in the management aspect of business.”
A number of courses in the programs are offered in what’s called a blended hybrid, which gives students flexibility by allowing them to attend a class on campus, stream it live via the Internet or watch a recorded version.
In addition, some of the courses use open source electronic textbooks which can be downloaded at no cost by enrolled students. (Printed versions of the textbooks also are available for purchase.)
For students seeking an introduction to sales careers, the Detroit Lakes campus also offers a nine-credit certificate in Professional Sales Skills. For more information about the AAS degree, diploma or certificate programs, contact Christensen at 218.846.3689 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, M State serves more than 9,000 students in credit courses each year in more than 70 career and liberal arts programs at its four campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena, and through eCampus. By partnering with communities, the college also provides custom training services and other responsive training programs.
