M State finance staff honored for innovation
Pat Nordick and Dennis Zilmer of Minnesota State Community and Technical College have been recognized for their work in developing the innovative Campus Service Cooperative, which aims to increase the efficiency of colleges and universities statewide.
Nordick, M State’s chief financial officer, and Zilmer, business manager on the Fergus Falls campus, were awarded certificates of appreciation from the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system in December for being “leaders and champions” of MnSCU’s Campus Service Cooperative.
In November, the MnSCU board of trustees approved an initiative entitled Charting the Future for a Prosperous Minnesota. The initiative calls for broad changes in six areas, including the creation of financial incentives to reward collaboration among Minnesota 31 state colleges and universities.
“The sharing of services through Campus Service Cooperative is a major component of MnSCU’s Charting the Future initiative,” Nordick said.
M State was a pioneer in developing procedures that allow employee payroll to be processed for multiple institutions from one location.
Zilmer is also serving on a team that is exploring other shared payroll services and offerings that colleges and universities could tap into. The cooperative is exploring partnerships with such groups as the Minnesota Department of Administration and other state agencies; the University of Minnesota, the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities, and the Itasca Project.
