E. Mabel (Knutson) Murray was born to Eric and Christine Knutson on August 19, 1919 in Detroit Lakes. She was raised with four siblings, Alice, Custer, Morris, and Carl.
On September 8, 1939, Mabel exchanged wedding vows with Charles M. Murray in Moorhead. The couple had two children, James Allen and Charles Fox.
During the Depression and War Era, Mabel and Charles made their way west through Billings, Montana, Pocatello, Idaho, Pasco, Washington, and finally settled in Gladstone, Oregon around 1952.
Mabel was a lover of animals. She took special care to make sure the stray cats in her neighborhood were spayed and neutered. She also enjoyed collecting dolls, coins, and stamps. She engaged herself in many arts and crafts that included sewing, gardening, and ceramics.
Mabel passed away August 6, 2010 in Hillsboro, Oregon. She is survived by her son, Charles Fox Murray; daughter-in-law, Jewell Steckler; and siblings, Alice Anderson and Carl Knutson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marshall Murray; son, James Allen Murray; and brothers, Custer and Morris Knutson. Her family and friends will forever remember Mabel for being a wonderful mother. She made sure that her children always had clean clothes, proper shoes, and food in their bellies. For Mabel, her children always came first. She loved her family, and will be sorely missed.
Mabel's family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or the Oregon Humane Society in her name. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
