The old Mac's and Floral Impressions buildings will be coming down soon.

Hough Inc. received the demolition bid for both buildings. Cost will be $48,000 for the former Mac's building and $27,000 for the Floral Impressions building. The city had estimated the cost at $90,000 for the two, so the total is slightly less than expected.

Though a date hasn't been set for the Floral Impressions building to come down, the Mac's building will be torn down after June 7 to avoid disrupting the Street Faire at the Lakes, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.

"We got more bids than anticipated and I'm glad it went locally," Community Development Director Larry Remmen said of the bid award.

The downed buildings will help make way for the veterans park and the redevelopment of the crescent area along Highway 10.

During Tuesday's Detroit Lakes Development Authority meeting, the group approved setting aside $100,000 each for the micro loan program (for small businesses in Detroit Lakes) and the façade renovation program (for storefronts along the downtown area). The loans will be a matching loan through area banks.

The board also agreed to a request from Dakota Natural Foods to cancel a contract for deed for a lot in the North Industrial Park. The company had signed a contract for deed from the city in August of 2007 for an adjoining lot in case of a need for expansion. A balloon payment of $70,000 is due this year -- $48,000 for the lot and $22,000 in special assessments --- and the company has decided not to expand.

Using the down payment of $1,000 the DLDA agreed to go ahead with the request and the roughly $700 in costs to cancel the contract.
