Former Detroit Lakes resident Mae L. Benson, 72, of Fargo, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at Essentia Health in Fargo.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Tues-day, May 21, 2013, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the ser-vice at the church on Tuesday. Lunch will be served following the ser-vice at the church.

Mae was born May 1, 1941 in Fergus Falls, where she grew up and attended school. She at-tended Detroit Lakes Technical College, where she studied Professional Sales.

Mae's life was blessed with four children: Robyn, LeMoyne, Tam-mie and April. Mae worked in retail sales for several years before tak-ing a job as a U.S. postal worker, which brought her to Fargo.

Mae truly loved moth-erhood and she truly en-joyed raising her family. She liked knitting, sew-ing and crocheting in her spare time. She also en-joyed reading, antiquing and all family gatherings; especially picnics, holi-days and community events with her kids while they grew up and later with her grandchil-dren and great grandchil-dren.Later in life, Mae enjoyed eating out at the area restaurants with her family.

Surviving Mae are her four children, Robyn (Dave) Jessen of Frazee, LeMoyne (Janine Rodenhiser) Benson of Brockton, Mass., Tammie (Steven) LaDoux of De-troit Lakes and April (T.J.) Foltz of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren, Tanya (Perry Jr.) Heinonen, Kassie Benson, Lindsey Benson, Cassy Foltz, Roni Foltz, Sami Foltz, Zach Foltz, Chad (Holly) Jessen, Bret Jessen and Julia LaDoux; eight great grandchil-dren, Perry III, Landen, Adyron and Destiny Heinonen, Ashley and Tyler LaDoux, Katelin Dimmen, and Madison Kern; one sister, Lila (Jim) Spencer of Big Lake; and one brother, Marlin (Kathy) Witt of Cedar, Minn.; and four nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mae in death were her parents, Fred Witt and Mayfred Kjos; grandma, Lena Kjos; husband, Laurel Benson; and two grand-children, Jason LaDoux and Kristina LaDoux.
