Mahnomen man charged with making terroristic threats against estranged wife
Donald Eugene DeGroat Jr., 25, of 722 S. Main, Mahnomen has been charged in Becker County District Court with making terroristic threats, a felony.
According to court records:
On July 16 Detroit Lakes police were called to an apartment on Minnesota Avenue by a woman who reported that her estranged husband, DeGroat, had been making threats for days and had just sent a text message that read: "I'll kill both of you."
The apartment unit consists of a common area and three apartments, and she went to another apartment in the unit to avoid DeGroat, who allegedly was heard a short time later pounding on her apartment door and shouting fighting words.
He and another man allegedly broke a window in the door before police arrived. DeGroat allegedly ran off, but was caught by police a short time later.
He appeared Thursday before District Judge Joe Evans, who set bail or bond at $1,000 and set his next court appearance for Aug. 24.
He was ordered to have no contact with the victim except through a third party to arrange child care issues.
