Mahnomen man gets prison for writing bad checks
A Mahnomen man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of issuing dishonored checks.
Loren James Smith Jr., 22, of Apt. 208, College Road, Mahnomen, was sentenced to 17 months in prison, with credit for 118 days already served. He was also fined $1,160 and ordered to pay $2,071.60 in restitution.
Smith was accused of writing a $640 bad check to a Detroit Lakes business on Nov. 21, 2012, for purchase of multiple items. The check was later returned for non-sufficient funds.
