Mahnomen woman gets jail time, probation for drug possession charge
A Mahnomen woman has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony drug possession charge.
Liza Marie Mason, 38, of 107 N. Railway St., Apt. 201, Mahnomen, was given a stay of imposition on a possible prison sentence, on conditions including completion of up to five years of supervised probation, 90 days in jail and community service in lieu of $660 in court fines and fees.
If she successfully completes probation, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor conviction on her record.
Mason had been apprehended for shoplifting at Walmart in Detroit Lakes on Sept. 16, 2012, and was sitting in a squad car awaiting transport to the jail when she asked an officer to retrieve her purse and wallet from the car in which she had attempted to flee the scene.
After doing an inventory of her purse following her arrest, one of the officers found a metal spoon and syringe; the spoon contained a suspicious residue, and was sent in to the state for testing. It later tested positive for traces of heroin.
