Malinda Gamer

Malinda V. Gamer, 100, of Frazee, passed away at the Frazee Care Center on Friday, January 15, 2010, under hospice care with her family by her side.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, rural Frazee, with the Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Malinda Victoria Quade was born to Theodore and Paulina (Bressler) Quade on June, 1, 1909 in Evergreen Township, Frazee. She moved to Canada with her mother at a young age. At age 18, she moved back to the Frazee area to find work. She was schooled in Canada through the sixth grade.

Malinda was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen on June 27, 1909. She was confirmed o April 5, 1925 in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada. Malinda was united in Marriage to Carl Herman Gamer on January 30l, 1929 in Evergreen Township, Frazee. Carl passed away on April 10, 1989.

Malinda worked in cook cars in North Dakota, the Lakeland Turkey Plant in Frazee, Swift Turkey Plant in Detroit Lakes and Sky View Café in Frazee. Carl and Malinda also owned and operated a a farm in Evergreen Township for many years.

Malinda's hobbies were crocheting, for which she got many ribbons, knitting, and tending to her flower gardens. She was a wonderful cook, and she also took her cooking skills to the Frazee Care Center with her fry bread and doughnuts; something staff and residents looked forward to enjoying. Malinda was also president of the Resident Council at the nursing home for a number of years.

Malinda moved from the farm in Evergreen Township to the Frazee Assisted Living in 1994, and to the Frazese Care Center in 1999, remaining there until her passing. Above all, Malinda devoted her life to her husband children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.

Surviving Malinda are her three daughters, Arlene Halvorson of Grants Pass, Ore., Shirley Glander of Frazee and Carol (Norbert) Litzau of Frazee; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; one brother, William "Bill" Harlos of Saskatoon, Canada; one sister-in-law, Hendrika Quade of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Carl Gamer; daughter, Marilyn Remmen (1983); two infant children, Loretta and Charles; three grandchildren, Gordon Remmen, Jerome Remmen and Lori Kay Glander; two sisters, Minnie and Dorothy; three brothers, Art, Roy and Phillip; and three sons-in-law, Lester Remen, Phil Halvorson and Norman Glander. Arrangements are being provided by the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.
