Man appears in court for violating order
A Detroit Lakes man made his first appearance recently in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of violating a domestic abuse no contact order.
Arlan Ray Bergstrom Jr., 20, of 424 West Central Avenue, Detroit Lakes, is also facing a related gross misdemeanor charge of giving a false name to a peace officer and a misdemeanor count of driving after license revocation in connection with a Nov. 22 incident in Becker County.
According to the criminal complaint, Bergstrom was pulled over stopped for a traffic violation on County Highway 34 in Becker County. He allegedly identified himself as "Tyler Kertscher," and was cited for driving without a valid license. Kertscher later came forward and said that he was not the person behind the wheel that night, and indicated that it may have been Bergstrom.
The arresting officer recognized him from a photograph.
There was a passenger in the vehicle on Nov. 22 who was later identified as the woman he was forbidden to have contact with as a result of a Sept. 26 no contact order.
The no contact order was filed as the result of a conviction on three misdemeanor counts of domestic assault, in connection with separate incidents.
Bergstrom is currently being held at the Becker County Jail pending his next court appearance, at a Feb. 19 Rule 8 hearing. His bail has been set at $20,000 with conditions, or $50,000 without conditions.
