Jason Earl Patch, 32, was taken into custody and remains at the Beltrami County Jail, officials said Friday. Charges are pending.

The Sheriff's Office responded to a report of gunfire and screaming coming from a home 3 miles southwest of Bemidji at about 8:30 p.m.

A scan of the premises revealed a marijuana growing operation near the house, officials said. Deputies surrounded the house and tried unsuccessfully to talk to those inside. Deputies set up a perimeter around the property and waited for a search warrant to be issued, officials said.

The Headwaters SWAT Team was called in to enter and secure the home. The SWAT team informed the occupants tear gas would be deployed if a response was not given, and Patch surrendered without incident. Officers found a pistol, ammunition, drugs and drug manufacture and distribution paraphernalia, officials said.

Other law enforcement agencies assisting the Sheriff's Office were the Bemidji Police Department, the Paul Bunyan Task Force, Clearwater County Sheriff's Office, Blackduck Police, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Minnesota State Patrol and the U.S. Border Patrol.
