Man arrested in Red Lake for illegally possessing 2,000 tablets of prescription drug
GRAND FORKS -- A man wanted on a federal warrant from Michigan was arrested Friday on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in connection with possessing illegally more than 2,000 tablets of prescription drugs, reported the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office in Bemidji.
Omar Sharif Beasley, 32, has been the subject of an ongoing investigation for selling prescription drugs on the Leech Lake and Red Lake reservations, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Beasley has lived in Detroit and Minneapolis and is wanted on a federal fugitive warrant out of Michigan.
Officers of the Red Lake Police Department, the U.S. Marshal's Service and the FBI Headwaters Safe Trail Task Force have been conducting an investigation of Beasley and were involved in his arrest.
The drugs he had included Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Diazepam, used as painkillers and anti-depressants.
