Man charged with burglary, assault
Lucas John Peterson, 21, of Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony first-degree burglary -- assault.
According to court records, on June 5 Detroit Lakes police were called to the scene of an assault. They found a young man in the yard with scrapes, bumps and blood on his face. He was disoriented and unable to say what had happened.
Inside, they talked to a woman who allegedly said that her ex-boyfriend Peterson, with whom she shares a child, had come to the residence intoxicated at 2 a.m. with a friend and found her and the young man in the living room.
Peterson had been evicted from the residence by police two weeks earlier and ordered not to return there.
He was allegedly angry that the young man was there and threatened them both, then threatened to take the young girl with him. The woman blocked the door to the child's bedroom and Peterson allegedly screamed at her and pushed her in the chest.
The young man offered to leave to calm things down, and the two men followed him outside, where Peterson allegedly assaulted him.
Peterson later turned himself in to the sheriff's department, where he tested .044 percent blood alcohol concentration and was arrested.
He appeared June 8 before District Judge Joe Evans, who set bail or bond at $5,000, with conditions, or $25,000 without conditions. His next court appearance is Monday.
