Man charged with felony assault
Nicholas Edward Durant, 18, of 25917 Bear Clan Drive, White Earth has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree assault -- substantial bodily harm, and felony domestic assault by strangulation.
According to court records: On Thursday, White Earth police officers were called to his residence on a report of a domestic assault. A person identified in court records by the initials VLD had been severely beaten about the face area, and was sitting on a couch holding a towel to his head because of bleeding from his nose and mouth.
The two had argued outside the residence, and VLD had locked Durant out of the house and pretended to go to sleep on the couch. Durant allegedly got into the house and, angry at being locked out, beat VLD on the couch and applied a headlock, restricting his breathing.
He appeared in district court Friday before Judge Peter Irvine, who set cash bail at $3,000 and bond at $10,000. He appeared again Monday, where he waived an omnibus hearing, pleaded innocent to the charges, and demanded a speedy trial.
