Man convicted of illegal possession of firearm

Michael Duane Ellis, 52, of 31492 County Road 35, Ponsford has been adjudicated guilty in Becker County District Court.

In a trial without a jury before District Judge Joe Evans, he was convicted of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court records, on Jan. 30, 2008, an agent with the West Central Minnesota Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for Ellis' home, and prior to starting the search, asked him if he had any firearms.

Ellis told him he had a British .303 hunting rifle in his bedroom.

He was earlier convicted on a felony burglary charge and is not allowed to have a gun.

Sentencing is set for April 13.
